Brian Johnson is a painter and printmaker. He studied graphic design at Brighton College of Art and after graduating was employed by a multi-disciplinary design consultancy in London. He experienced many forms of design practice ranging from Brand Identity to Packaging, Bank note design to Exhibition design.He moved to Plymouth in 1973 and became a lecturer in Graphic Communications at Plymouth College of Art. Brian was responsible for establishing BA degrees in Graphic design and Illustration.Three years ago he retired from art education to develop his Painting and Printmaking interests. His artworks focus mainly on Natural History, Landscape, Still Life and Anthropological subjects.Brian enjoys creating textural substrates and experimenting with mixed media. Mark making created in print often influences painting directions.His image making is very much influenced by the works of British artists Samuel Palmer, Anthony Gross, Eric Ravilious, Graham Sutherland and Ben Nicholson.
