My original training as an early years teacher, followed by a degree of Bachelor of Arts has given me a foundation and appreciation of the arts. However I have always been drawn to ‘making’, which led me to join the Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter in 2009.   During this time I have been able to develop my artist practice in printmaking.  I focus on relief printing; both elimination and multi-block which suits the bold and graphic style that I like to achieve.  I am interested in strong shapes, colour and line which convey the form of the final print producing simple and accessible designs. Each print is an original print produced in relatively small editions ranging from ten to twenty.  My work has been inspired by both the rural and urban landscapes of Devon and I have a particular interest in birds.  Recently I have developed a series of prints illustrating some of the birds that I encounter along the river Exe.  In producing my own work I have been influenced by the work of Robert Tavener, Edward Bawden and Cyril Power for their use of defined shape, colour and movement.I currently exhibit my work in galleries throughout Devon and the South west including The Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Honiton and will be taking part in ‘Make’ at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in November 2014.
