Chloe Morter graduated in 1996 with a BA in the History of Art and Architecture from Manchester University. She has since worked in graphic design and the print and embroidery industry. Her embroidered images are a combination of detailed machine embroidery with collage made from scraps of paper, prints or old fabrics. Using a looser approach, she builds up the image in a series of layers which can also include paint, chalk and hand embroidery. Her work incorporates elements of the natural world and my surroundings in the Devon countryside with a particular focus on the birds and animals she sees living within the layers of the landscape. A lot of her inspiration also comes from a love of pattern within design and a strong interest in British and American Folk Art.
