Doreen studied Lithography and Illustration at Epsom School of Art followed by a post-graduate year at Reading University. She then worked with a studio potter in Swanage making raw fired domestic earthenware. This was followed by a number of years teaching in comprehensive schools before becoming Senior Lecturer in Ceramics at the University College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth.  She started Orchard Pottery, together with Tony Smither, in 1980. She now makes reduction fired ceramic animals and birds and large feature pots for the garden. Some pieces are produced in bronze resin.
