Born 1974 in Devon, Jason Blackmore moved to the far-east after graduating in 1997 and spent 10 years developing his style in somewhat critical isolation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. After another year in Düsseldorf, he returned to his South West roots, taking a studio at the Royal William Yard in Plymouth. Jason works in the formalist tradition, so eschew subjective content in his work and favours aesthetic rigour and objectivity, where form, line, colour and close attention to finish are the order of his practice. His work has always been focused on modernist geometric formalism, and more recently moved into three dimensions, which although more demanding in terms of time and effort required, better achieves the architectural quality he’s seeking in the finished piece.
