As well as painting in traditional oils John Boyd also enjoy experimenting with various media especially water base materials as these can produce the unexpected which he quite likes. The rugged coastlines of the South West provide his inspiration but also the Great British landscape with its interesting topography. John tries to attain atmosphere and depth within his work and making studies plein-air helps his achieve this. Whether it be painting with my pochade box in oils or messing around with some mixed media/drawing etc, using various methods allows me to come up with fresh ideas and he hopes to keep his work from becoming stale in approach.
