Rachel Garner

During a BA Hons in Fine Art and History of Art, Rachel Garner was particularly inspired by the abstract expressionists, such as Helen Frankenthaler, relishing in the layering, light and atmosphere that a 2D image is able to project. She has taken this inspiration and now work with acrylic and pastels 'en plain air' and then build up the image with oils later. She would describe her paintings as semi figurative land/seascapes, inspired by our coastline and a little corner in France. More recently, Rachel has been drawn to the human form, developing a sketching style that she hopes captures both the subject and the feeling of their immediate environment. Although her sketches and paintings are stylistically different, her aim is to capture an intimacy of subject or space.
