Siân is a self-taught artist who spent many years experimenting with a huge variety of media, but on discovering watercolour instantly declared it to be the medium she had spent a life time looking for. “I find watercolour a truly exciting medium. Inspired by the beautiful effects that are possible only in watercolour I feel the medium itself seduces me into experimenting. ‘Just add water’ and it becomes a medium with a life of its own that entices me into a balancing act of control and giving the medium its freedom. “ Siân believes that close observation of your subject informs and underlies the expression of it. Much of her work is carried out from direct observation, although some is recorded in the photographs that she takes and uses to complete the paintings back in the studio. Her fascination with floral subjects is a result of the ethereal effects of light through petals and leaves. Her fascination with people has led her to her greatest challenge yet ~ capturing the person behind the face in watercolour portraits.  She has exhibited her work throughout Devon. Ten years ago Siân left teaching in schools to set up Moor to Sea Arts with husband Rob. Sian cannot help but share her experience and takes enormous delight in seeing others achieve more than they had thought possible.
