We are delighted to announce our patron for the 2019 show is Lydia Corbett. Lydia was born in Paris in 1934 and was named Sylvette David. As a young child her life was spent between Provence and a small island off the cote D’azure. When Lydia was 16 her mother sent her to Summerhill school in Suffolk, England. She then returned to France with her fiancé and in 1954 met Pablo Picasso in the small, southern town of Vallauris. Being a muse for Picasso was a wonderful experience which changed her life. Over three months, Picasso painted about forty paintings of ‘Sylvette’ (as she was then called). Lydia became famously know as ‘The Girl with the Ponytail’.

The event is organised and run by The Friends of Doddiscombsleigh School. The show involves the entire school community, teachers, pupils, parents, alumni and other local supporters. Everyone gives their time voluntarily The proceeds of the Art Show from previous years have been used to build an outdoor classroom, trim trail, amphitheatre, as well as supporting extracurricular activities such as sports and theatre trips.
