Richard Sowman

Richard Sowman

Richard Sowman was taught in the English tradition of observational painting fostered at the Byam Shaw School in London and kept alive at Falmouth School of Art in the 1970s. He's intrigued by small events, how a moment of sunlight can make the ordinary extraordinary and finds oil paint a medium richly satisfying in gesture and expressiveness. He likes getting in a mess and is not very good about cleaning his brushes nor his palette. The RA has shown his work as have a number of other galleries from Newcastle to London and the Westcountry sell his paintings.
